Rationale

At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, we believe that all children need to have excellent and relevant IT skills if they are to succeed in life. We aim to give them high quality learning experiences through access to a range of digital and electronic hardware.

Intent

Technology is changing the lives of everyone. Through teaching computing we equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology.   It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in an effective way.   Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this. 

The National Curriculum for computing and the progression of skills we follow both aim to ensure that all pupils:

• are confident in using code and can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including logic, algorithms and data representation
• when coding, pupils can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programmes in order to solve such problems
• effectively communicate and can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
• are able t connect with others responsibly and are competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology

Implementation

Computing is taught in weekly, hour long lessons, utilising the IT suite and classroom resources. Across the curriculum, teachers use Teach Computing curriculum, which supports the delivery of high-quality lessons and also supports the continual CPD of our staff. In Foundation stage, children have the opportunity to use technology as part of their independent learning. The recent acquisition of a class set of iPads will allow our children to be exposed to, and use, a range of technologies. Children are encouraged to support their home learning projects by use, is a safe way, of computing.
